This is how you navigate on an uninhabited island.
0 Comments Published July 31st, 2009 in Manmade, Naturalish.Uninhabited islands seem a trope, right? What would you bring to, what book would be your only reading material on, what album would be the only thing you listened to for the rest of your life on , who would you want to be trapped with on, etc. The Galapágos are famously unpeopled. Endemic species [...]
I can’t let this photo out into the wild interweb without my now-traditional gripe. A tiny tourist town in Ecuador has a better recycling system than the south side of Chicago does. There’s a cache of signs now nearly in the same place that the great orange diamond was in the previous image. They’re scraped up, piled up, and provide for any directive need. “Keep Left” is below “Keep Right” but splayed out [...]
There is a road somewhere under and between the buildings
0 Comments Published July 3rd, 2009 in Manmade, Second Edition. An old photo: The University under construction and light snow. The place has no shortage of crossing guards, blocked off buildings, rerouted walkways and so forth. Plants are going in, grass is going down, paths are going concrete and a new library, here, is descending into the ground. Maintenance requires novelty.
